A playworker and a child stand together, watching another game in progress across the playground. Suddenly the child turns to the playworker, with a big grinning face.
“I’m taller than you!” she shouted. It was an offer, a challenge. A test of playfulness.
“Really?” asked the playworker.
“Yes!” she said, jumping into the air. “See?”
The playworker laughed.
“Are you reeaaaalllly?” he asked, stretching the word out, bringing his face down and meeting her challenge eye to eye.
“YES!” she cried, leaping into the air and tucking her knees up, flinging her arms up to catch the cold winter sky and pull it down behind her. At the same moment the playworker ducked down, touching his fingers to the tarmac.
“Wow,” he said. “You’re a giant!”
“I know, right?” she said, face flushed and triumphant.
